Included in our welcome back package, we included a volunteer survey (at the start of the school year) that asked what events would you be interest in helping at or chairing. When this information was returned to the school, I compiled it into an excel spreadsheet, with columns of kids names, parents names, contact numbers, teachers, and events. Used this database during the year for each event. Using excel's tools, can do a sort and produce a list of what parents were interested in helping a specific events. Very helpful. Gave sorted schedule to chairs prior to event - really helped limit the number of "desperately begging for volunteers" notes sent out. Something we will continue next year.
We actually do this in Cub Scouts. It is not a directory, but this is similar to the form we send home to parents, you can customize it a sneeded. Hope this helps! www.threefirescouncil.org/Forms/family_survey.pdf
Does anyone have a directory of the talents of the parents in your school? We were thinking about trying to start a directory that would list your professional and your non-professional skills. For ex. we wanted to make a movie about the school and found out that one of the parents does this as a hobby and volunteered to put everything together with music and voice, another parents loves planning reunions and social events so they are now in charge of the alumni and the graduation parties, etc. If you do what type of form do you use and what information do you request.
