there not elderly, it's just always been done this way. But it seems really backward to me. I feel like any parent should be knowledgable about what we do, and how we help the school. I found out tonight there are alteast 4 others on the board that feel the same as me. so...i am just going to keep pushing it!

We try to have an executive board meeting every month. At least a week or two before the general meeting so that everyone is supposively on the same page. The main meeting is to get the parents to have a voice and information regarding not only the school but what is going on in the district as well. I have heard of some groups taking the meeting out of the school and having it at a restaurant or something. You might try that. Are they elderly ladies? Hope everything turns out okay. You aren't wrong for your feelings though.

An executive meeting only?????? A PTO is for everyone who has a child in that school or is a teacher in that school. The executive board can not make all the decisions without the general memberships approval. Why wouldn't they want everyone there? What are they trying to hide or are they just scared of "new"? All in all everyone should be allowed to attend the meetings.
Good luck & hang in there. If you know when the meetings are just bring people along. The parents have the right to be there.

I just became a member of PTO by pure luck this year...I knew someone. My daughter is a Kindergardener, and I am new to the area. This PTO does not hold any meetings for the parents at all, but then complain because people don't vote.So I being the person I am brought up the idea of next year having a welcome to school meeting and a spring meeting for the vote. This is a very small town, and the eyes just rolled. They are very weird about it. They said people won't come. I said really....because anyone I run into wants to know why we don't have meetings. They charge 1.00 to be a member and you get a card. Other than that....you get a newsletter that is sent home to every kid in the school. IF big IF they need volunteers they then send out a letter, and if you are a memeber or not they let you volunteer. I just don't see the point in having a memebership drive persay if they don't even include the members in anything.
I am sure there was lots of talk about me when i left, but i just want all parents to get to know the executive pto members, and know what the pto does for the school. These ladies have been in the executive council for several years...so they know everyone, and think that everyone esle should automatically know what they do... Any suggestions on what to do?
I don't want to be ousted, but I would like all parents to feel involved!
