You did the right thing if she really was a nightmare to work with and you could not get volunteers to work with her. Now you need to stick by your decision and not worry about what she will run around saying and doing. If she is so disliked then no one will believe or care what she is saying anyway. If anyone approaches you to find out what happened you & your board members should just have a short stock answer to reply with...something like "she wasn't communicating with you, you tried to fix the situation and it just did not work out". It is good that the principal is in the loop on this one and supportive of your decision. As for the teachers and holding a meeting...I don't think I would waste their time holding a meeting and add any more fuel to this fire. If a teacher asks you what happens that is one thing, but I would not call them to a meeting to discuss this.
The less you publicly discuss it the quicker it will die down. Besides if you act like it is no big deal people will think it is no big deal. Don't fan the fire.
We have never voted on people to chair an event or fundraiser. When we have something that needs to be chaired we just ask someone if they will do it or ask at a meeting for someone to do it. It is typically not covered in the bylaws as chairpersons are not positions that need to be voted in.
Well I have a problem and not sure what to do from here.
We had a chairperson who we had major problems with running our Santa SHop (I posted about this before) she wasnt communicating with the officers, co chairs, just did things on her own without approval. She wouldnt return phone calls and just very hard to work with and no wants to work with in the future. Working with her at the santa shop if she didnt like the answers one of the officers gave she would go to another one and she would go back and forth with us. Not thinking we actually talk to each other she always got the same answer. The straw that broke the camels back was she didn't like a decision I made she basically called me the big "B" to a group of people.
Today after the end of shop I asked her how she felt things went and she thought everything was hunky dory. I advised her what our concerns were and that she had a lot of problems with time and getting things done that I wanted her to step down from her next chair event the second grade picnic.(I had two other officers with me) Needless to say she got very defensive and blamed it on a million and one things saying this was her first time. I told her then she needed to call us or her chairs. etc. In the end she started getting nasty and said we are trying to RUN everything and we dont want anybodys help. I told her we need help but you need to pick something thats more suited to what she can do and the time she had. She did the well I work full time thing which half of the officers work so that didnt fly either.
My question is I know she is going to go guns blazing and totally bash our PTO I want to nip this in the bud and not totally make us look bad but not sure where to start.
I am going into the pricipal tommorow morning (she was aware of the situation and I had told her we were asking her to step down which she supported) and I was thinking of calling a meeting with the teachers because the discussion we had with the chairperson did get loud and a few teachers heard. The chairperson did get in some of the other members faces and said we were out to get her.
Also not sure what the protocal is on making someone else chair never had to do this. Do just the officers decide or do I have to bring it up at or next meeting and could she be voted back in if she had enough people? I dont thing this situation is in the bylaws but I am going to check with coordinating council.
I am not a comfrontational person but I had to take this girl off she was just making it too miserable for others that I couldnt get any volunteers for our picnic. So taking her off was the only alternative I had. I did tell her we appreciated her help and I know she was trying her best but chairing didnt work well with her.
Sorrry SO LOOOOOOONNNGGG
I do need help though!!!!
