Our PTO doesn't do anything except teacher appreciation week. We buy items for the classrooms all year round. This year the teacher's sent home a note to our students asking them not to give them holiday gifts. To either buy something for the classroom or give a gift card for the amount you would have spent to a teacher's store, walmart, targets, waldenbooks, etc so they could buy items for the school. This is also a tax deduction. Our teachers provides items they needed for the classroom if you wanted to let your children pick the gift. Our school is a private school grades prk3-5th grade.
We usually give give teachers $100. in start up money & in the spring $5.00 per student for field trips. Secretary's day we give her a $25. gift card along with our 2 aides. For Teacher apprec. week, we buy a meat/cheese platter, rolls, butter, plates, napkins.... for dessert I bring something in. Thats it.
Wow! Vouchers for every teacher!?
We give gift cards for local eateries rather than money as it seems more personal. Here's how we break it down.
We give $25 each for secretaries day & nurses day. We give $25 each for the 5 crossing guards in our district at Xmas time, plus $50 to the 2 janitors (they are always cleaning up after us!) and $30 each to the principal & secretary. Teacher appreciation week was outrageous in years past - over $500! This year we toned it down to Breakfast on Monday ($50 limit) for bagels & juice, Lunch on Wednesday $50 limit for rolls & meat/cheese trays, and dessert on Friday $50 limit for pastries. Hope this helps.
My 3 strong tikes,
You give that much money to the teachers??? That seems incredibly excessive. I would have a hard time supporting a PTO that seems to be be staff focused.
They all get big kisses from the PTA Guy, that's about it.
We do have a grant program for teachers (about $150.00- but that's not guaranteed)
Our Facilities Mgr, Librarian and Cafeteria Lad(she is the MGR) get christmas and end of year gifts/tools for working with the whole school (as opposed to classroom /grade lvl)
The secretary/ office staff bdays, events are usually covered by my FTD account.
Then 8% budget line item for appreciations, thank yous, taeahcer luncheons, etc
