Forget the naysayers, if people took the time to read it, fill it out, and return it-they are yours. If only one person gets involved, that's one more than you had! You have the right to be excited about every little step. If you don't allow yourself that, then doing PTO will get depressing. Doesn't it just make you so happy to know that you helped get this rolling and the children in your school could be nicely rewarded for your hard work?

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

Nobody gets it.... so I need to be excited with you guys, because you get it....

So we put together a welcome folder over the summer, 500 folders with 10 different pieces of information, program info flyers, reminder stickers, parents survey, newly designed membership form with volunteer opportunity ceck boxes, you get the idea.

They've started coming back, maybe 25% are back and I'm beside myself with happyness.
We were short a treasurer, someone checked off they had accounting skills, one call and she stepped up, she didn't even want to think about it.
We needed someone to update our website, two people with experience are figuring how to share the duties, two people!!
A parent wrote about a program another school in our town does to promote creative writing, she volunteered to start it at our school.
To top it off there was a half page write-up in the local paper about our PTO's activities AND..I sat down at the computer and there were 3 online sign ups waiting in the email.
I'm so happy, because I was so nervous that(literally) no one would volunteer and 5 people would have to do everything, like last year, I kept hearing things like "well, you know how volunteerism has been in the past"
I think they just didn't know how to get involved and weren't asked.
The real proof will be at our general meeting, the number to beat is 23, (5 board, 10 teachers, 2 custodians,1 principle, 5 parents- 2 of them being the ones who love to complain but don't help)

Thanks for listening....
