We don't have business members on our PTO but we do have them on our school site base team which they deal more with hard core school issues, budgets contraints, taxes, etc. I am not sure what a business would get from joining our group.
First off what are you going to charge businesses and what is their benefit to joining?
We offer a Sponsorhip membership to businesses, with that they will receive a line at the bottom of a yearbook page, "This page has been sponsored by MB Entertainment 954-316-2149"(Shameless plug!) We will also offer web site sponsorships which will give them a button and link to their site on our website.
Another offer open to businesses is Yearbook sponsorship. Our yearbooks are given to the children free of charge. One company can sponsor the yearbook for the school. They pay all the fees and get inside front/back cover.
How do you get started? Get your city chamber of commerce book and start marketing away! once you are done with the city, start working on the county! These books(guides) have hundreds of businesses that "want to be part of the community" and you can let them be just that!

Has anyone had any luck with getting businesses to become members? If so, what have you done? I am looking for ideas, letters or info packets to send or give to our community businesses and would appreciate any feedback.
