We did a BooHoo breakfast last year that was also very successful. (It's a breakfast for kindergarten parents, typically held on the first day of kindergarten.) I have our planning checklist, a flyer, and a form for requesting donations posted here: www.orgsites.com/ma/ptoinfo/_pgg6.php3
We had ours on Thursday morning in the Media Center and out of a possible 105 kindergarters we had 75 parents show up and sign in.
We did danish, bagel with cream cheese and fruit with coffee or juice. They had a great time and we answered a bunch of questions and had 22 new parents sign up as volunteers.
Of course, our PTO pays the whole thing. We the (PTO) are the "Welcome Committee."
We had our first ever BooHoo/Yahoo Breakfast yesterday morning. We had over 50 people who signed in and even more than that who stopped by to check us out. This was awesome because this year children were supposed to be dropped off in the cafeteria instead of parents walking them to class. I think we lost a few parents because of this but I can't believe so many stayed to eat with us, and most of those have not ever been involved with PTO before. I had people asking me about PTO opportunities that before never had any interest in PTO. It was exciting!!! Even the teachers were excited about this event. They provided ALL the food and drinks. We had so much left over we put some in the teacher's lounge and took a bunch home to freeze for our Volunteer Meeting next Friday. I even told someone that we may have enough left to have refreshements at PTO meetings!!!
Thanks to everyone on this board who has posted ideas like this for me to "steal." I tell my officers that most of my ideas are not really mine, I've just stolen them from ya'll.
