Our PTO bought the VSoft system for the school last year. Everyone that comes into the school has to give their DL to registar & then a badge w/their DL photo is printed for them to wear while in the school. This software is updated on a regular basis & you know if you have any sex offenders or anything else in the school. I wasn't on the PTO board when it was purchased so I don't know how much it cost but I believe the annual update fee was around $250. It seems to work out pretty well.
As our Volunteer Policy is still being revised I think the only procedures at this time is info we get from looking at the sex offenders register- which I try to do on a regular basis. Volunteers are never left alone with a child- either a staff member or another volunteer is always present.
are any of your schools changing rules, procedures, etc. of how to keep sexual preditors away from your students?
Because I'm in Florida and there has been so much going on, I'm wondering if any of your school boards are changing on how they handle the way they deal with volunteers.
Right now, our school does a simple DL/SS check for those who volunteer in the classroom/school.
Our PTO does not check for volunteers who help at their sponsored events. Sometimes they don't even have a roster as to who is volunteering on what event.
I know that we had a discussion on background checks a few weeks back, but things have changed and I'm concerned about the future.
I would hate to "scare" away anyone that would want to volunteer, but then on the other hand, I would hate to find out that our children could be in danger.
