Our FRC usually hands out ribbons to the children. They are supposed to wear them until they are too tattered to pin on. They also tell the story of the why the grandmother started this recognition. When my youngest was in pre-k he told me the story verbatum. I was a little shocked because he was so young, but he seemed to appreciate the circumstance even more.
Do you have a center for battered families in your neighborhood? Perhaps you can contact the supervisor there and collect needed things, such as hygeine products, food, blankets, etc.
