Wow, this is why I really like this forum-I always get great ideas! We've never tried or even HEARD of a 100 day party! What a great event, and thanks for sharing the ideas. I think having a cake with 100 candles would be fabulous for lower-middle grades, along with having 100 of something so the kids can visualize what 100 looks like. Dressing up like a 100-year-old would be fun for upper grades! I'm definitely going to suggest this to our PTO!
Last year, I baked a cake and put 100 candles on it. The children had fun watching the teacher trying to light all 100 candles and they all helped blow them out.
Our K-3 school has a 100th Day Dance sponsored by the PTA. We provide a DJ, popcorn and cotton candy. Parents are asked to donate bottled water, juice boxes and hand wipes. The kids look forward to the event all year as they count down (up?) to the 100th day of school.
I just read in the new PTO today mag. about a school where they all dress up like they are 100 years old on the 100th day of school. I think we are going to do that this year along with a sticker and certificate that says "I'm 100 days smarter!" You can get the stickers from Positive Promotions and we are going to make our own certificate and xerox it. My 5 year old has a family project where we have to find 100 of something and send it in. Like buttons, cheerios, pennies....anything.
You can find all kinds of stickers and certificates for the kids from Smilemakers and other such companies. When we do something that will in effect reward the whole school, we try to do something inexpensive like a popcorn or popsicle party. Have fun!
The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
