When we used to do VIVA (Value in Volunteer Acknowledgement) we added up the hours in the school's volunteer book and asked all other volunteers to submit what their estimated contribution has been at the end of the year. Basically, they were to keep track of their own hours or for us to go on the honor system. For those that may have puffed up their involvement, there were others that would underestimate.
We just have a binder in the media center/library where there are sign in sheets with our names on them. We record our hours whenever we are at school. I don't know if it is every "input" in to any kind of program. I do know that it is added up at the end of the year.
A long time ago we just signed in and out and that info was then put in spread sheet format (I think our gal used an old Works program) and that worked....not sure what we do now...hhmmm
I must have deleted the form we use(someone else is coordinating the program this year and has my disk), but it was just an Excel spreadsheet with columns for the volunteer's name, time in, time out, what project/classroom they were here for, and total time. Each month we total the hours given and put it in the newsletter. Our principal also relays the information to our school board. We had over 3000 hours last year so they were very impressed!
I too would appreciate a copy of the volunteer log sheets if anyone has them to share. We don't record volunteer hours as of now--but i have been thinking we should just to know(but we always have the same group of moms volunteer for everything). Also do you all have some kind of "thank you" for the volunteers--i was thinking maybe like a dinner or something at the end of the year. They really deserve more then just a note from us. Any ideas??
