Don't know if I am in the right place but here goes. I read a note from someone in one of these chat type places regarding a tri-fold leaflet that they use for their membership form. I copied it and changed it somewhat to be used at our back to school night. I copied the many 'why we do it reasons' and added it to the pamplet. I just sent it to our pres. and she LOVED IT. So thank you to whoever it was out there it cyberspace who was so generous to share.
Because it makes my child proud.

You all must have heard it... My mom's the PTO president so she does XYZ , or knows XYZ, or I got to help because my mom's the PTO president.
They won't admit it, ESPECIALLY MIDDLESCHOOLERS!!!, But when your face shows up at school, they are proud!!!
I'm sorry I was unable to get back and thank all of you for your help. I was able to use a lot of your ideas and I think we had a very strong response. Our open house membership drive jumped form 24 to 58 of course we will have to wait for the year to really get started before we know if we have more involvement but so far we are off to a booming start [img]smile.gif[/img]
The reason I joined was because I have always loved working with kids, but I got a job right out of high school and never went to college to do what I wanted to do, teach, so now I am in the school, doing a great thing, and doing what I want to do and that is working with kids. My daughter is going into 1st grade and I want to do this until she is out of school completely. I sometimes feel that I am being a little selfish! I mean I am having a great time! This is great because I get to see what my kid is doing without intruding on her and letting her have her freedom too!
I GOT INVOLVED BECAUSE ALL MY COUSINS HAVE OLDER COLLEGE AGE KIDS AND THEY ALL TOLD ME THAT THEIR KIDS DID SO WELL IN SCHOOL AND STAYED OUT OF TROUBLE BECAUSE THEY WERE THERE. I FELT BEING INVOLVED WOULD GIVE MY KIDS AND ADVANTAGE AND EVERY PARENT WANTS AN ADVANTAGE FOR THEIR CHILD!! THAT ASIDE BEING INVOLVED DOES HAVE HUGE PERKS!! NO ONE LIKES TO TALK ABOUT IT BUT IT CAN BE MOTIVATING. LIKE GETTING TO KNOW THE STAF AT SCHOOL, GETTING THE INSIDE SCOOP ON WHATS NEW, GETTING TO KNOW THE PRINCIPAL, GETTING TO KNOW THE OTHER KIDS AND EVEN MORE PARENTS, NEW FRIENDS, GETTING INTO SCHOOL MORE OFTEN AND SEEING YOUR CHILD AND TEACHER, FEELING COMFORTABLE IN YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL. THERE ARE SO MANY. HELPING OTHERS IS A GREAT THING BUT IT IS A HARD SELL INFORMING PEOPLE THERE ARE THINGS TO GET OUT IF IT IS A GREAT IDEA!!
