Red Ribbon Week is held in October is a "Say no to drugs" campaign.
I don't think I mentioned our PTO's monthly Fundays. Watermelon, Snocone, Cocoa, and Popcorn Days are held on Fridays, the time it interupts classes are minimal since classes are scheduled seperately for this event. Our Holiday Shop is usually scheduled with the classes P.E. schedule since we are using the gym anyhow. We also have our Fall Festival and Spring Fling during the day. This is usually held b/n 12:30 and 2:15. Field Day is all day and our annual cookout is scheduled with this. Plus our principal hold Success Celebrations every Friday from 1:45-2:30. Awards are given for academic and attendance. Everyone gets a chance to get something eventually.
I dont want to sound like a fool but what is Red Ribbon week, when is it and what kind of things do you do. Please understand our school has been without so long prior to our groups startup in 2001. thanks

We seem to do a lot. To start with, 1 day each month we have a science program come in, they go to all the different classrooms(alternating each time they come in) and do a hands on project that fits ino each teachers curriculum.
We also do something for Red Ribbon Week, Dr. Seuss Day,Field Day, Career Day and Theme Day (usually States of the USA or different Countries). Thats all I can remember right now.
We have several day time events (with priciples approval) most of them are at the end of the year and don't ever think as something as just fun if nothing else it is physical education . One way to help get arround class time is to start by targeting just a grade level. For exaple have a %th grade math lab day with activities that use applied math (such as measuring a tall tree, discover the pendulum principles with the swing set etc...) or reading buddys where you pair up K-2 with 3-5 and have reading times. these things can also coincide with classroom time by using the 45- 50 minutes alooted for math, reading or gym. And I hate to use this option and never had at any of the schools my children have gone to but the principal is not the final say if need be set a proposal to the school board they are elect officials to carry out your wishes in your children education.
We do literacy days, we try to have a Holiday Story Reading Day in December (depends on the weather), that seems educational to me. Plus, the parents can sign up when it is convienent for the teacher and if a teacher does not want to participate she does not have too.
We have several fun events during the day. FRC has crazy days during Red Ribbon Week. It keeps the kids interested in showing up for school, and it's not enough to interfere with instructional time.
