room reps/volunteers

Our elem. school PTO uses classroom volunteers many ways. First way is Homeroom Parents. they organize all of the classroom parties for the school year, and depending on teacher preference, the also contact parents for field trips. The Homeroom Parent is given a list of parents in their classroom who are interested in helping with parties and make the phone calls and organize party crafts, games, and activities. They also organize special events for their teacher during Teacher Appreciation Week. Because of the work load, we usually try to have two or more Homeroom Parents. We've always had good luck with this program and the teachers love it!

This year our PTO used room reps/volunteers for the first time. And while it was fairly successful, there was definately room for improvement. I'd like to know what other groups have done, what's been successful, what your volunteers duties were, how you recruited them etc. etc. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
