I'm at a small school and it's not necessarily that parents don't want to do it, for us it's that they don't feel confidant to step forward. I was that way until I was approached by another parent two years ago and asked to run for president. I really shouldn't say "run" as I've been upopposed for the last two years. Anyway, this year at the last executive board meeting we discussed who within the organization would be good for what position and then I approached these people personally and asked. Guess what! We have a full slate of officers. I pointed out their strengths that led us to wanting them for each position, I assured them that we would back them up 100% during the year on events, and so on. So try the personal approach and see if it works for you! Good luck!
What do you do when you have no one interested in running for PTO officer or board member position?
We're a school of 260 students and parents are just not interested in attending another meeting let alone be involved in organizing events. Takes too much time!!!
