Our school had a silent auction. Each class was given a basket and a theme. For example, a barbie theme. Each child in the class was asked to bring in something related to barbie. We had barbie stickers, towels, barbies, barbie clothes. The items don't have to be expensive. After about a week of children bringing things in we wrapped up the baskets with ribbon. Each basket was auctioned off. The baskets sold for up to 175.00. It went really well. We had frog theme, lighthouse theme, barbie, scrapbooking, automotive. Just a couple of suggestions. Good Luck! Teachers really do appreciate the help!!!

Be specific in your request. make a list of everything that you will need to get done.
Making phone calls for donations, flyers, picking up donations, etc.
Once you know what you need help with, start with asking someone to do one of those things or circulate the list at your PTO meeting and ask that someone signup for each part. It might not sound so scary if all they have to do is make a few phone calls.

Try sending a flyer home about the upcoming auction. Ask parents if they could donate an item from their business or maybe they have a hobby (we have a dad who loves to make picinic tables), timeshares or a vacation home they would consider for a weekend. Also put on the flyer that many hands make the work easier and you could use even one half hour of their time. Make sure your name and phone number are listed.

Good luck,

HI everyone --

I am new here and I am SO glad I found this site with all it's resourses.

That being said, I need some ideas on recruiting help for a project I have been asked to oversee. I am not on the PTO and only help out where I can. The thing is, I have been asked to oversee the Silent Auction for this years carnival. It is a big event and in the past has done quite well. The problem is that I have no helpers. (Actually, the PTO pres is contacting a few businesses) The other "volunteers" I have (only 2) are not doing anything. Too many people know what a headache it is and don't want much to do with it. So, how do I, get more volunteers. I have brought it up to the PTO, the Principal has made the request, the teachers have made requests and I have asked all my friends that could come remotely close to handling the stress of it. I would love ideas!
