Parent Involvement in the PTO is growing scarce. There are so many Moms, Dads, and Grandparents that volunteer in the classrooms but maybe 3% of them volunteer with the PTO during and event and almost none of the them volunteer on a regular basis. So, when events that the board had scheduled prior to the school year have come up and no one volunteers to organize it a couple of the board mbrs will organize it, then when no one extra steps in to help during the event they are begging the other "usuals" who already put in so much time on a regular basis to be there and help. Everytime I've mentioned to cancel the event when a new chairmen doesn't volunteer they look at me as if the PTO will be nothing if the event doesnt happen. Is it wrong to cancel events when you don't get the new volunteers for it? Having a board possition is a huge responsibility in it self WHY add more responsibility to it by chairing events and then "guilting" the other already obligated members to obligate themselves even more.
