We held our first Donuts with Dad in Nov. The turn out was sensational and surprised everyone- including Administration.
It was held during our Book Fair and they were not prepared for the response - over $1000 more in sales. Next time, they will have more staff, a different check out procedure and more stock.
Local businesses donated the food,(Publix, Panera Bread and Atlanta Bread leftovers). We thought we had way too much but it was what we needed. We provided books for Dads to read with their child.
What a success for bringing parents to the school!! In the Spring it's Muffins with Mom in two shifts, divided by the alphabet so parents can be with siblings of different grade levels.

We do a school wide flier in the weekly folder to all students. It announces the day and time and has a section at the bottom to RSVP. The RSVP is crucial to get the correct amount of food - our recent Muffins event had only 6 muffins left over out of 16 dozen purchased. Instead of rounding up, we round down just a little. It seems there are people who either reply twice, or decide not to get up early that day or for whatever reason the turnout is slightly less than expected. As to the reason the Donuts with Dad is for dads, our goal is to get more dads into the school. Give them a reason to come in, make them feel part of things.
Hi, I can email you our flyer if you like -hopefully you'll be able to open it! We decide to do a "muffins w/Mom" event in March. However, since we've never done this before I'm just hoping the whole thing works out!! Krystal
We had our 2nd Donuts for Dads last week. We are K-4 with 285 students. We had it during the Fall Book Fair and had a tremendous turnout. The flyer read something like "Dads take your kids to the Book Fair and enjoy breakfast together". The whole thing was set up down by the library and that way we knew the Dads would more than likely take their kids to the Book Fair after eating. Anyways...the Dads spent over $1500.00 at the Book Fair during that one hour!! Needless to say we'll be doing this every year and we will be having Muffins for Moms during our Spring Book Fair!!
We started our Donuts with Dads 2 years ago - and I can echo the huge and wonderful turnout! We are a k-5 of 350 students and served 450 donuts. We used a flier with RSVP - thank goodness or we never would have had enough. We have expanded to do a Muffins with Mom - which drew approximately 125. Be careful to include on the flier the explanation that an uncle, big brother, step dad, anyone can be that dad (same as on the moms). We have had resistance from the staff to start this as they feel that too many kids don't have dads. We have a third event, Bagels with a Buddy to accommodate any that don't fit into the other events but that drew only about a dozen people. We spend approx. $200 per event, no door prizes or decorations or donation requests, just a quick social event.
