We had a volunteer at the school whose boss donated a computer and a scanner. They spent one whole year computerizing and organizing our library.
This past summer, a young Boy Scout made our library his Eagle Scout project. He wasn't even from our area so I'm not sure how he even picked out school. The local Barnes & Noble set up a drop box in their store for donations and he advertised locally and within our church for donations. Last week he delivered over 600 books for our library!
A docent is basically a trained, unpaid helper. We have an Art Docent program that parents teach, bringing in works of art and having the kids do a project based on the art. There is a educational pack that the parent can read so that they are informed about each painting. This is a national program and the art is supplied.
I'll post more re: the library as we come up with ideas.
OK This year the PTC's main goal is to beef up, spiff up and overhall our library! Our Principal is 100% behind us and has already spent a bunch on new computers, furniture and fixtures.
We want (among other things) to start a library docent program. Rather than re-inventing the wheel I am here to get your ideas and how you all run this program!
