Bullentin Boards

I too started a PTO Bulletin Board this year. It is a wonderful way to "highlight" PTO activities with pictures and captions. The kids and parents love to see the captured memories as they walk down the hall!

A hint...I tried to plan the board's monthly themes in advance. I layered the paper underneath, so that when I am ready to change it, all I have to do is take down the current paper and my next layer is ready to decorate!

Our first theme was...
"We are all a piece of God's puzzle". I glued mismatched puzzle piece's to the a border, and wrote the names of all of our families on puzzle pieces. To carry the theme through out the first month of school, as an ice breaker for our first PTO meeting (this Tuesday..yeah!) I found a puzzle piece templates, copied them and added three lines. Once they were copied, I cut the the copied puzzle piece in half. At our PTO meeting, we will have everyone find their match and ask that person three questions. 1. Name 2. The names, ages and grades of their children attending our school and 3. Name something you enjoy about our school. Once everyone returns to their seats, we will call on each member and they will introduce their newly found friend and share the information learned. We are excited to try this new "ice breaker".

I also found interesting quotes and decorated the copied puzzle pieces that will be used to decorate the halls the night of the meeting.

In addition to themes, I have added a fun fact.
i.e. What word begins with an "E" ends with an "E", but only has ONE letter in it? I then attached an envelope below the question containing the answer. I am hoping that it will draw attention to the board and our families will look to the board monthly for new trivia and fun facts. Oh..and the answer is...
An Envelope!

It is a great way to remind families of upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, introduce new and PTO officers. I am considering highlighting a teacher/s a month. I think the kids enjoy learning things about their teachers that they dont see everyday. I will let you guys know if I come up with something!

We use one of the glass ones. Ours doesn't slide, but it's the same general thing. It works out very well, it has hidden a few printing errors of mine. I just recently took over our board and had no ideas. I decided to stencil our name on there and use a different theme every month to put the important dates on. I made apples, pumpkins, turkeys, snowmen, top hats, hearts, and shamrocks. I printed them out on colored construction paper then laminated them so we could reuse them. Then I printed out the dates in a really cool font and made it big enough to notice. I cut those out and taped them to the shape. I think it looks really cool. Yesterday I typed up a list of volunteer opportunities to put RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE so everyone could see them. I hope it works! Good Luck!

Do you guys think one the of outside bulletin boards with the sliding, locking glass would be as effective? We don't have a good spot in the office area, but there is a perfect sport right outside the doors where everyone walks in. Any opinions?

We did this last year and it has been great. I went to our local walmart and got the largest board and decorated the borader. This is a great way to get messages out or to recieve them. the office sometimes post help wanted (Volunteers) and leaves messages that come to us over the phone. We are hoping to add a second one that will be a teacher wishing tree.

We have this. Last year I put our calendar and newsletter on there. (The original color one!), made a flyer that told our next meeting, made flyers for upcoming events. We decorated differently each month. I also used some PTO Today articles up there, along with the website address ;) . I got some activies off of the Zoom website. I had our website address on there and I tried to keep the phone # for our district Character Counts cooridnator. The first bulletin board I had I tried to put how many box tops, ink cartridges, etc. we had. Some people also put birthdays up there, but I didn't have any room.

I would like to put a bullentin board in the entrance of our school where you parents sign their children in and out of school. Plus, it is the same place most all kids come into the building.
I was wondering if anyone has ideas of how big and does any other PTO groups have this in their school. Please let me know!!! ;)
