A friend of mine in a nearby town told me that each of her children, from elementary school upwards, are REQUIRED to give a specific number of community service hours each year. The school keeps track of service hours and the parents report info as accumulated. For example: Raking leaves or snow shoveling for an elderly neighbors.
I don't know if this counts towards a grade of some kind, has positive/negative influence on report cards, etc.
While I fully intend to get more info, I'm curious if anyone else has a similar program. In our family we've often talked about "soup kitchen help at Thanksgiving" but we have yet to follow through due to "family obligations".
Comments, PLEASE!
