We just poured money into our own library. Mostly purchasing an electronic scan system so we can keep track of the books better and then we purchased $13,000 worth of new books.
Murals might be able to be painted directly on the brick wall. Our library downtown has a huge mural of a "make believe" world. The kids love that they can find a lot of fairy tale pictures in the mural that are familiar to them. A painter might be willing to donate time or check with a local university...
Also big pillows on the floor. I realize in a school atmosphere you probably have to have some tables and chairs but kids are naturally drawn to these lady bug and other animal/insect pillows on the floor. Plus they have reading "nooks".
Hi all! Our PTC has decided to make the school library a priority next year. Last year there was an inventory done and many old, boring books were removed. We plan to buy a bunch of new books, cover some brick with panels that posters can be hung on, and rearrange the seating. The Principal is on all of that.
We have a k-8 school and we are looking for ways to make it more fun for the upper grades to come to the library. We thought of a monthly / one a trimester "book swap". I ran it by my 8th grade daughter and she said "the 7 - 8th graders wont come". I thought that maybe we could entice them with some prizes (Jamba juice/baskin robins etc).
We also thought of having an adopt a book drive to help offset the cost of the books.
