We are also holding a "reading night" this week, for Read across America week. We started collecting gently used books from everyone last week, and Friday evening we will hold a free 'book swap'. Anyone can donate books, and everyone is welcome to bring home as many books as they want to. We will have free refreshments, mats out for reading corners, and a visit from the cat in the hat. We also purchased several gift cards from barnes and noble to give away for door prizes. I hope everything goes as planned!! FYI, we are planning this for our Pre K-5 students...

We held a Family Pajama reading night last year during march for reading awareness month. We had a storyteller in the gym. She was great the problem was some kids wouldn't stay sitting while she was talking. The young ones were running around and babies were crying so those in back couldn't hear. We are re thinking this and having smaller groups in smaller rooms with snacks and drinks in each room. Another idea we are doing is a book recycle. Who doesn't have books your kids have outgrown. A good way to clean up their book shelfs. We are hoping to get enough books so that everyone student gets to go home with a new gently used book.

Good Luck

We don't do a reading night, but we do have "Peopel As Reading Partners" and ask the parents or "someone special" to read with their children for 15 minutes a night for 2 weeks. We do this along with Dr. Seuss' birthday. I've found some good idea's on www.nea.org/readacross/

Good luck.

Good Luck with your first reading night. We are having a reading night also. We are using a theme of get "comfortable with reading". We are wearing our PJ's to school that night ,and having cookies and milk. Our kids think this is so cool! We are encouraging the adults to wear thier PJ"s too. I would love to hear what everyone else is doing for Dr. Suess week.
