I'm president of a Middle School PTO. We have small program coordinated through our school social worker to connect teacher recommended students with parent volunteer tutors. I has worked well, but the teachers give us more names then we can supply volunteers for. In thinking of ways to remedy this problem, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried using PTO funds to encourage more parents to commit to tutoring. For example grant $5 per tutoring session to parents who request payment. This would amount to about $20 per child per month. Is this allowed or does this jeopardize our tax exempt status? Does anyone know?
