I wouldn't want to join another PTO type org...but I would be a part of the Parent Committee. I've been a part of groups like this before, and they can be just a successful as PTO, without sounding too involved.
I work for a musical theater producer that runs a performing arts school -- dance, voice, acting. We have @ 900 students a year enrolled. We are working toward starting a PTO-style group, to keep the parents involved and informed and to do some fundraising. Since you are all very committed parents, to be posting on this site, can you give me feedback about how you would feel about being asked to help out if your children were enrolled in an extra-curricular school? I know we need to give them a "cost benefit analysis" and let them know what's in it for their kids (keeping tuition costs down, providing both need-based and merit-based scholarships).
If you think it's a okay to ask them to be involved, any ideas on how to sign them up?
Thank you so much for any advice you can offer. And long live the PTO!!!
