We have a parent volunteer room for our use this year at the school. We are going to have an area where we provide many of the things you listed in your post. A good source for literature and information is the US Dept. of Education Publications Order Page We have received some great booklets, brochures and literature such as "A Parent's Guie to the No Child Left behind Program" and "How to Help Your Children With Homework" "Ho to Help Your Child Read", etc. etc. You can do a search by topic or click on the topic listings. The items are all free and you can order up to 5 publications at a time

Those are great! Got any more? I have started a parent room council at our school due to the backlash PTO has recieved. Our goal is to provide for the parents only. We want to offer classes, learning material, and anything else that may be helpful to the parents on raising their kids. Any advice would be helpful.

This one I read at a PTO meeting to let parents know it doesn't matter how much we're involved, just as long as we are. Children like to know we support something their apart of. This is Award's Day by Beth Moore (its long)!
I went to my son's school that day
It was a very special day
When worthy tribute would be paid
To honor students in first grade.
Music ushered children in
Faces wet with toothless grins
Flags were raised and banners hung
Pledges said and anthems sung.
I stood with other moms in back
He didn't know I'd come, in fact
I didn't want his hopes set high
In case his teacher passed him by.
Every mom felt just the same
All had come to hear one name
The child she hoped they'd recognize
And find deserving of a prize.
The list went on page after page
As beaming children walked the stage
Cameras flashed and parents cheered
Grandma smiled ear to ear.
My eyes were fastened to just one
The anxious posture of my son
Perched at the very each of seat
Too young to have assumed defeat.
Certificates for everything
from grades they made to how the sing
for days not missed, for how they drew,
Good citizens to name a few.
But it wasn't likely on that day
They'd honor one who'd learned to play
and stay in class from 8 to 3.
Who'd learned to write and learned to read.
We hadn't hoped he'd be the best
We prayed he'd fit in with the rest
I knew no matter who they'd call
My boy had worked hardest of all.
An elbow nudged me in the side
A friend attempting to confide
A boy waving frantically,
"There's my mom! Right there! You see?"
They never called his name that day
I drove straight home, sobbed all the way
The boy? He had ceased to care.
He had a Mom and she was there!!!
Hope everyone enjoys this after you wipe the tears away!!!

Here's one that many love to have in their procedure book - right up in the front - and many presidents like to have this one read to the audience too.

Feel free to copy and past it into your world processor then copy it out on some nice stationary.

Inspiration poem

If You See My Child.......

If you see my child alone

…please look out for him and I’ll look out for yours

If you see my child scared

…please look out for him and I’ll look out for yours

If you see my child hurt

…please look out for him and I’ll look out for yours

If you see my child with a stranger

…please look out for him and I’ll look out for yours

If my child needs help for advice

…please look out for him and I’ll look out for yours

If my child is happy or sad

…please look out for him and I’ll look out for yours

If my child is discouraged or excited

…please look out for him and I’ll look out for yours

But if you don’t want to look out for mine…

I’ll still look out for yours.

INSPIRATIONAL was created by DEAR PARENTS
" AS A PARENT,I CAN GIVE NO GREATER GIFT TO MY
CHILD/CHILDREN,THAN TO BECOME INVOLVED IN
THE PARENT VOLUNTEER ACTIVIES OF THEIR
SCHOOL.........

......AND IF I/WE DO,THE PAYOFF DOWN THE ROAD
FOR THEM,WILL BE "TIGER WOODS" LIKE".

MAKE A COPY OF THIS TO POST ON YOUR
REFRIGERATOR OR OTHER SPOT AT HOME WHERE IT CAN
BE SEEN OFTEN. DISCUSS IT'S IMPLICATIONS WITH
THE ENTIRE FAMILY. YOU CAN ALSO WRITE YOUR OWN
INSPIRATION MESSAGES TO POST AROUND THE HOUSE/

IT CAN BE AS SIMPLE AS"EDUCATION IN THIS HOUSE
IS A PRIORITY".

HAVE YOUR CHILDREN WRITE THEIR OWN INSPIRATIONAL
MESSAGES TO POST OVER THEIR BEDS OR DRESSER.

IT WORKS!!!!

HERE'S ONE I TAUGHT TO ALL MY GRAND CHILDREN
AS SOON AS THEY LEARNED TO TALK. THEY'RE GROWN
NOW....................

AND REMEMBER IT TO THIS DAY.(AND USE IT)

GOOD,BETTER,BEST
I SHALL NEVER TAKE A REST,
UNTIL MY GOOD IS BETTER
AND MY BETTER,IS MY BEST.

TRY IT WITH YOURS.THEY'LL LOVE IT AND SHOW OFF
WITH IT WHEN UNCLE BEN AND AUNT MINNIE COME
TO VISIT(AND WILL TEACH IT TO THEIR FRIENDS)
