This was something that had been done in the past at our school and fell by the wayside. We put campus cleanup back on our calendar for the first weekend after school starts. We also plan to provide some type of refreshments. Since the school district takes care of the building and landscaping, I wasn't sure what would actually need to be done. We left that up to the Principal to make a list and have it ready by Open House so we could sign up people then.
We did this last year at our school, but it was during the school year. It was publicized via backpack mail. I think it was planned from 11-1 on a Sunday, and donuts and coffee were donated by the PTSO.
We had a lot of dads with their power tools, so they cut back a lot of the overgrown shrubbery in the school yard. We picked up trash, spread new mulch under the play structures, and painted some hopscotch and 4 square onto the blacktop. It was a nice day. Hope you have a good turnout for yours.
Has anyone had a workday for cleaning up the outside of the school before school starts? How did you advertise? I have a meeting with the officers and they thought it would be too expensive to send out postcards. So, being me and next years Prez., I, on my own, printed up about 50 cards to send out to tell parents about it. I just don't think word of mouth will get it! We plan to do the landscape area and our playground - but other than weeding - any ideas? We will try to paint the house the kids play in. We'll be there from 7-5 and people can come and go..let me know if anyone else has done this!
