How to start a PTO

Hi Tony -

No, any parent group can be called a PTO. It's a generic term for all independent parent groups. Sounds like a smart mmove you're making, because PTO is a quite recognizable term.

Keep an eye out for the National PTO Network (NPN) debuting on this site in two weeks. The NPN will offer a whole slew of value-added services for independent parent groups that want to really get "buttoned-up."

Good luck,

Tim

Hello! Our school has just decided to change to PTO. Do we have to register or anything in order to call ourselves PTO? I have not seen anything on this sight to that effect. Our previous parent/teacher group was PAK, which was not recognizable by the majority of the parents, hence the change. Please let me know if I need to do anything in order to call ourselves PTO. Thank you
