I wanted to do a "kiss and cry" room - parents walk their kids to class, kiss them good bye, then meet in the cafeteria or multi-purpose room for coffee and donuts to commiserate. As I'm "deserting" due to my husband's transfer and my VP is being thrust into prez role earlier than anyone had expected, she has asked that we not take this on this year, is afraid it will become expected and doesn't want to bite off more than she can chew which I 100% don't want to put her in that position. Our principal thought it was a great idea. Anyway - just a thought and absolutely NOT criticizing my VP who is stepping up!
Maybe a meet and greet with some type of food involved. Cookies, cupcakes or anything simple. Have information available about events and volunteering.
Our Kindergarten has it's first day of school a couple of days after the rest of the grades. They have in the past had a Kindergarten Open House with a chili dinner. I'm not sure what if anything will be done this year. We were at Kindergarten Sign-Up night and gave out information about volunteering.
Good Luck.
Does anyone out there do anything special on the first day of school for new parents. Our kindergarten first day is only about 2 hours long and parents are encouraged to attend with their students. I was thinking that this would be a great time to invite them into the Parent Club. Any ideas? I do not want to just say a little speech and beg, but don't know what else to do.
