We are going through the exact same thing. The super doesn't want us to split because he doesn't think we can support two organizations. He has suggested to have a "sub-committee" that will work on special projects. So that's what we are going to try.
I am seeking some advice as to how to handle separating our current PTOs into 2 PTOs. Currently we have 2 schools one that is K-2 and one that is 3-8 and the PTO is joint. But we are finding that the needs are diverse and parents with kids at one school dont support the needs of the other. I am looking for ideas as to how to generate new interest now that the PTO is more focused. To complicate matters, most of us on the board of the "new" PTO are "green" and have limited experience. I view this as a great opportunity to encourage and promote participation etc.. but fear that the split may also have negative impacts. Any ideas comments, etc?
