Block Parents/Safety crossings

I know that when I was growing up in the chicagoland area -- there was a program where (i am assuming parents) would register with the school and then display a blue star in the front window of the house and kids walking home would know that they could go to that house for help if they needed it. Perhaps you should check with your principal and maybe even the local police dept. ???

Dear __, can you briefly describe the program you are speaking of? Is it something more through the community or school? Some details might get you more responses. Good Luck.

I'm looking for a program that is as simple as the Block Parent Program that I found about 32 years ago in a school in the Central Valley area. Now in Southern Calif.,I'm in much hope of this program for my school, I believe I can bring so many students and parents a little closer together on a few issues. Has anyone out there knowledge of this program or a similar effective one? Summer months are really scorchers in So. Cal and kids walking home need assurance as well as us grownups. Thanks
