There is a great site at www.yougottaloveparents.org/
The Governor of the State of Ohio Declared this as parents week. Last week our PTA Council submitted a resolution for the District to adopt this as Parents Week, which they adopted. There is a sample resolution on the site.
On the site there are also about a dozen ideas/activities. We are distributing purple ribbons, (the reason for purple is also stated on the site) to all staff in our schools and of course the Board of Education and perhaps city hall. We have a press release ready for next weeks local paper. 25 yards of ribbon and safety pins cost about $6.00 and we got 100 ribbons out of it to give you an idea of cost.
We had just learned about it a few weeks ago and everyone is so busy being the first few weeks of school that it was difficult to advertise and implement anything so quickly. We are encouraging our PTA units to distribute ribbons at their meetings. I would have loved to make ribbons available to all the 5,000 school children in our district but the logistics are too daunting. September 24th was also deemed Have Dinner as a Family Night.
Hope this helps.
Our K-6 building will be holding a Parents Week the week of Sept 24th. Does anyone have any good ideas. We are thinking of a schedule like Mon-turn off your TV...Tue-Read to your child...Wed...go out for ice cream...Thur-a family night at school with comedian or something...Fri - ?. Wondering if anyone else is doing this, I'm not sure if it's National Parents Week or if it is something our principal wants to do. Your ideas are welcomed!
