Make a Difference Day

Would it be possible for the kids to color pictures or something arts and crafts and give it to the children's hospital in the area or even a nursing home close by? My daughter would draw for her great grandma while she was staying in a hospice house (a home for the terminally ill) and she was the envy of all the residents and staff.

Just a thought!

I can't believe it, Jo! You mean you didn't read and memorize every single word of our August issue? :)

Make a Difference Day was profiled in our Chalk Talk section.

(Thanks WCE.)

MightyJo, It is a national day of volunteering held on the last Saturday of October each year. Visit www.usaweekend.com/diffday/index.html
Good source of info and ideas!

Hate to sound dumb here, but what is "Make a Difference Day" & when is it?

As far as care packages, can your PTO afford to purchase some items yourselves & have the kids pack them up & add pictures & notes and stuff like that?

Our PTO is looking for a schoolwide project to promote on this day. We had decided on Care Packages for Red Cross, but today our principal advised us she doesn't like the idea of collecting things. She is worried it will interfere with our annual BBQ. (Asking parents for too much at the same time) We are k-5, so our children are limited to the amount of manual labor they can do. Any suggestions?? We want our students to get the idea of neighbor helping neighbor, but I'm lost for an idea.
