True, but even then usually the detractors are a minority with an axe to grind, and in our case are annoying enough that people give in to them just to shut them up.
Let me play devil's advocate. I know that it can sometimes happen, but rarely is something cancelled, changed, or eliminated because of one person. Chances are there are other complaints as well.
I know that recently it was rumored that I was the only one who complained about a fundraiser at school, but I know for a fact that there were several of us that approached the administration. Sometimes all the facts are not known.
Please realize that the administration is charged with keeping MANY people happy. An impossible task.
When these things happen to me (which is frequently), I try to look and see the validity of the complaint. If I see it, I try to change to accomodate it. If not, oh well.
Mykidsmom--it's amazing to me how this is AMERICA, a DEMOCRATIC society, yet this ONE person decided for the MANY. There was no arguing or reasoning around the situation--this one person didn't HAVE to participate, did they? AND--where the Hell was this person for the last three months?
We're running into this problem at our school, and it's amazing how "The Powers That Be" are so quick to cave in against those who have a problem with an issue. My argument has been, "What makes this ONE person's opinions so much more popular than everyone else's?" It annoys me when people feel AND act morally and intellectually superior to others. So they think it's insulting and are angry it was assumed they participate. GET OVER IT. All they had to say was, "You know what, I'm just not comfortable doing this, I'm going to bow out. You guys knock yourselves out." But NO, they're so sure that they're that scary smart and know what's the RIGHT thing to do, that they're going to personally make sure EVERYONE follows THEIR path.
My kids mom...have you ever heard that one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. I can feel for you, it is amazing how having a couple of staff members against a event can ruin the planning that took three months..been there!
"When you stop learning you stop growing."
That is too bad... did all the other teachers have a problem with it or was it only the one teacher? I think the kids would get a kick out of it and thought it to be a real funny contest and the idea the one teacher (obviously with a stick up..... )could "sabotoge" (sp?) this event is really pretty sad. Could you explain a little more how just one person was able to bring it all down? She should just have not participated and let it go at that. Some people have NO sense of humor!!
Friday we were going to have a Kiss-A-Pig event with voting taking place this week. Well, a "teacher" told the office how offensive and the nerve we had to assume that she would participate. So the event has been cancelled due to the is one person....
"tough times don't last, tough people do"
I needed to hear that. Three months of planning gone.
