What an astounding group of people you are! Each one of your replies really helps. I had been really bumming tonite because there is going to be a general meeting tomorrow nite. I just found out today. I did turn in my resignation today.
Believe it or not, I WAS actually thinking about what several of you suggested, starting another group, a serious group. It's time i started to know the people that have children in school with my children. I think that's probably the best place to start.
Btw, on my resignation I did complete it with a statement pointing out the legal liability of the "program" , thus my main reason for resigning.
Anyhoo.. I just wanted to thank all of you for your replies

Pam- all I can think to say is incredable. If this is what her feelings are there is not a whole lot you can do. I like how PTO's are statewide orgs. Even 4-H and girls scouts have laws. VFWs and Moose Lodges have by-laws. I hate for you to have to resign on her request but she sounds like a train wreck waiting to happen! We had a power hungry gal that went w a y t o o far and the Principal STILL will not approve ANYTHING she wants to do. (very long story) While we hate to walk away from something we love to do sometimes it's the best solution, especially when you are dealing with HER .
Hang in there, the night of your meeting take the kids out, don't stay at home as you will go nuts! Have fun with the kids that night (well you should all the time but do something special that night to help yourself)
PamS Sorry to hear your having such a hard time. I THINK your not alone many of us face your same problems. I know I wanted to resign the begining of this year. We are all out here for the same reason "the children". The teachers and the faculty know who is sincere and who is not(at our school). Remember you have every right to be involved and no can take that away from you except... you.(I think Elenor Roosevelt said something similar to that.) I suggest you gather up some bylaws from this web site and write your bylaws then present them at a meeting maybe people would see how helpful they would be. Also if your not a legal organization maybe you should think twice about your involvemement. Then starting your own group is a geat idea and people will know you are serious about the changes that need to occur. You can do it! It will take a lot of time I know because that is what I'm up against right now. Good Luck! Don't give up! Maybe change your direction to the positive and keep on that track.

Dear PamS, Oh please do not quit! I was the bad guy when my son was first in school.I had my own opinion and the click didn't like it. I took alot of flack but I just kept smiling and saying hello. I got out for a year and then I decided I wasn't going to let someone push me out of my son's life at school. Sometimes things can take time. If you are out let them make their own mistakes. Start another group or committee. Bylaws are very important. You can't run an organization without some guidelines. It can take a long time to fix problems. We all have to live in a community with these people. There's alot of good advice prior to mine. Put it all together and you will surely have success, especially the one about outsing the pres. Just don't give in!! One person can make a big difference in your school - be it! We raised money for a great playground. If I would have quit it wouldn't be there! Hang in there!! Be tough tough!!
