I HAVE THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE TRESURER AT MY SCHOOL. NO MONEY HAS COME UP MISSING, BUT THE DISORGANIZATION WENT WELL BEYOND BELIEF. FOR EXAMPLE: OUR TRESURER HAS BEEN IN OFFICE FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS, AND DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO KEEP THE BOOKS. SHE LITERALLY LISTED THE CHECKS WRITTEN, BUT NEVER THE BALANCE OR THE REASON FOR WRITING THE CHECKS. I CALLED ALL THE OFFICERS TOGETHER FOR A BOOKKEEPING MEETING, AND TOGETHER WE MANAGED TO ORGANIZE THE BOOKS AND CREATE A SYSTEM EASY ENOUGH FOR HER. SHE LATER ADMITTED THAT SHE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO KEEP THE BOOKS. THE FORMER PRES. ADMITTED TO ME THAT SHE HAD NEVER LOOKED IN THE CHECKBOOK. BY WORKING TOGETHER WE GOT THE JOB DONE, AND OUR TRESURER APPRECIATED OUR SUPPORT.
I told you it would show up...lol... And as long as you have an honest, if somewhat unorganized, treasurer, it always will.
Now, take whatever steps are necessary to help this gal get organized. Revamp the whole system if you need to, and then list it among the things you helped to do while in office (could help if you change your mind and run for prez again and it certainly will help your treasurer keep her office...)
Just wanted to let you all know our treasurer found the missing envelope! It was in the bottom of our cash box amongst some other papers. I did e-mail our members but I am sure they still will have their doubts. Oh well.
Thanks to all of you. I guess I feel a little better about the whole thing today. I will see if our Treasurer will let me come to her home and the two of us search for the envelope.
As far as running again next year I probably won't. It takes so much time away from my family especially at the holidays with Santa's Workshop etc. And we all know if we are there to do the work then people don't help since they know we'll be there!! Anyway, I will post if we find the money. Thanks again.
Since you KNOW she didn't pinch the money, I would not make her pay it back. $20 is not going to make or break your group this month. Instead, I would offer to help her find that envelope. I've had this happen and it should turn up. If it doesn't turn up during the next month or so, then she may need to replace it. Meanwhile, you might call and talk to someone from the Scrip program and ask them kindly to reissue the checks.
Just remember, this is not the end of the world. So what if there are &%$#heads in your group? There are always going to be. Ask them to run for your spot (or any spot on the board). Who knows? Maybe they'll win and end up apologizing to you next year! Meanwhile, don't let the good you are doing, can do, and will do, be affected by them. They aren't worth it, but the students are.
I'm a PTO pres too and I thought my sinuses had really been acting up since this fall. I think now it's the stress! I've created a lot of change this year (hopefully for the good) and I've felt like I've had to drag the teachers into a new century.
