Okay back to her issue (sorry) I checked my Robert's Rules and you can call a meeting, have a adjenda ready. You can only run the meeting if the Pes + VP are not able to. You are lucky it is only March and not May too have to work this out! Also, involve the principal- I really believe this will help. I really wish you the best and my the force be with you!
To Mitemom and other "fairly new" officers - over and over again in this forum, we read about the need for by-laws in a PTO. No officer --strike that -- no member should ever feel awkward asking for a copy of the organization's bylaws. In fact, every member should WANT a copy! I've even pushed for our Bylaws to be included in the school directory which goes only to PTO members, so they would be readily accessible. If an officer tells you that s/he can't find a copy for you, or that you can't have a copy of the Bylaws, beware. Your PTO officers should have nothing to hide. If your organization has no bylaws, volunteer to head the committee to write them. Sound bylaws and a sound budget will save you tons of aggrevation.
ok. first of all yes check your by-laws-next go to your trusting Roberts rules of order (sorry my 9 month old is trying to help me type!) The election was a joke, we nominate the announce the canidate in both our newsletter and the school's then a month later we vote. I am really sorry to hear your fearless leader (Pres) has been as wonderful (ha Ha) as mine! I believe that you can call a new election- PLEASE is someone up on their parlementary procedures? I am happy to hear you have the Principal's support on this matter. Please be careful but in the same note I hope this can be cleared up without any mud!
i would like to know if anyone has ever had a husband and wife on the same bouard. or have any members of the same bouard been related. there is nothing in our bylaws about it.
thanks
I agree that you should check your by laws. Ours state the month in which the election is to be held and that a written notice must be sent home 7 or 10 days prior to the vote. Nominations can be made a head of time or the night of the election. The President can not be on the nominating committee and he can not be involved in counting the votes.
I would say that your election should be held over and that a notice needs to be sent home to all parents.
