Hermanie- we have by-laws on our website-- they are printable Untitled Document
this might help you when you are writing your by-laws-- they are constantly looked over and changed due to the times. They have been updated I think 3-4 times since we wrote them initially. Some of it is based on what are district asks us to do-- such as how much money to carry over, who can sign checks and 2 people must count money-- Other things we put in place is who can run for President, Vice President, how you can run... (have to chair an event, plus attend 3 pto meetings) A little hard for you if you've only had 1-2 meetings all year. You can use these as reference and add wording that fits your school or situation. Good luck-- and remember, she only has so many years at an Elementary school.

exactly!

1. get a copy of your old/current Bylaws until the new ones are voted on. Bylaws need to be submitted and reviewed 30 days prior to voting. Your School District will have a copy of them, it's public records. get as many people as you can to go to this meeting. Bylaws should say how many meetings there are for the fiscal year. (at least ours does)

2. RUN FOR OFFICE! give her a run for her money. get as many friends as you know to come to the meeting and vote for you.

3. things get lost, Santa Shops are the worst! if you didn't get a call, don't take it personally, your info probably got lost or the teacher didn't turn it into pto or the chairperson lost it or...they are organized that they didn't need extra help! (NOT)

people that feel the need to do everything are control freaks and suffer from a micromanaging disease. there are several reasons for this. one, she feels superior that no one can do it better than her, or.... she feels insecure because she doesn't really have it all together so if she is in charge of everything, than no one will know the truth of how something is really going.

do the campbells thing for some other school that will appreciate your efforts!

write an official letter of complaint. she may not see how she is treating people. when someone is in charge of everything, they can't really see how they are treating people or that they are misrepresenting themselves...or.... she just really likes being difficult.

it takes so much more work to be difficult than to be grateful.

call me..... I'm in Centennial Colorado: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

hang in there!

You are a charter school - all the labels, fundraisers etc can be done under the CHARTER SCHOOL BOARD control with their won appointed committees with the principal as their contact between them and the parents should you decide to do so. The difference between the parent group and the board having charge is that if the board has the charge - they are the ones who get to decide where and how the funds are spent.

You can get enough pressure on your problem parent from the charter board, staff and other parents to get them to act rpoperly or to quit. A charter school is supposed to have a lot of parent involvement - it should be there to help you, you just need to look a little bit and go through some different channels.

We are a charter school ourselves and have had to do this with a problem parent but we were lucky in that ours was only a committee head and not an officer. That parent did end up leaving and going back to a regular public school as our charter board would not put into place some of her ideas.

I questioned the way our treasurer and a board member had spent money over the summer without a pto meeting or a vote and I then was bullied until I quit as co-president.In June of 2007 our pto had over 5,000 dollars when we returned in September we had a little over 1,000 dollars. A purchase of clothing with school logos was made to sell but no one can aford to buy them.
And on top of that our playground is falling apart and very little is being done for our children and they want to close our school.

From experience, somebody needs to make sure the bylaws are like they should be. Easier to get them "right" from the beginning. I wouldn't get hung up on the soup label issue, I would be more concerned about the over all situation.

As far as the Santa Shop...try not to let what your son purchased bother you too much. It is hard to make sure that every kid buys what their parents would want them to. Sometimes the kids just get so excited and if there are several in the shop at one time, well, we just do the best we can do. Losing a check (could happen), then being disrespectful about it, that is another thing. Really not that big of deal to handle...sounds like this person might have more on her plate than she can handle and doesn't want to admit it. As far as the person with the lost check, I would encourage her to not let this one incident keep her from being involved in her child's school. Her child would be the one that loses the most, even though the pres probably feels like she's all that, as my daughter would say. You said 2 officers resigned, did that leave her the only one left. Sounds like there needs to be a meeting to nominate more officers. YOU GO GIRL !!!!!

I like Mr. President Jim's suggestions. I agree about the Campbell soup labels. If you don't have a large school with amazing support, not really even worth the trouble. Box Tops...Great Program. Wonderful website with printable materials. Really easy $$$$$$. Printer Cartridge and old cell phone recycling can do pretty well also.... We do a nacho, candy, coke sale. (I know some don't like these things at school, but 4 or 5 times a year, we don't see anything wrong with a "treat" that often). We sell nacho's for $1, candy bar $1 and coke .50. Local restuarants donate the cups, We get chips and cheese at Sam's, try to catch candy bars when they are 3/$1. Put cheese in crock pot 3-4 hours before the sale on low or warm, stir occassionaly...Serve last 1 to 2 hours at the end of the day (Friday).

Keep us posted...
