We also used to do Market Day and that was a committee separate from the Fall Fundraiser because it's so much work all by itself.
Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."
"The ultimate aim of karate lies not in victory or defeat but in the true perfection of one's character."
Oh - how could I forget this one? We put out the fundraiser as "looking for Chairpeople" as well so that is also run by parents that are usually not on the board.

Dance Program (volunteer taught and supervised for ballet, jazz and tap, K-6 grades with the usual show at the end)
Box Tops/Soup Labels
Parent Resources (books, videos and links towards ideas and info on all aspects of parenting from special needs to hyper to every-day what to expect - similar to a "parent library")
Trash for Cash (old cell phones, ink cartridges to cash)
Ice Cream Social
Volunteer Appreciation
Graduation Breakfast (for kids moving on to the next school at the end of this year.)
Holiday Shopping
Those are the bulk of our standing committees. Some that I listed I know that many PTO's boards take care of these events but we fan it out to get more parents involved and usually it all falls into place and works wonderfully. It gives parents the opportunity to put in a little or a lot of their time without be (as some say) restricted to the board or running everything. The parents who run these committees and the board make contact at least every other month with info and updates to go into newsletter and flyers. Needless to say, everyone feels in the loop and communication is very good.
