to 'dont like principle' entry above, from the little you discribe, sounds to me like the main problem in your neck of the woods is the superintendent.... (at least, in our district its the super who hires and fires the principal).

i dont advocate accepting all any principal does, but my point remians, if you dont like the job he is doing, you must address the principals boss. and if no changes come about, address the school board.

that is the general way to get things done, but it is clear that some supreintentdents are not the best pick either, and someitmes the school board is not doing the job right either. anyway, if its rotten all the way to the top, i feel for you. lots of luck.

Beignets not the same as what I'm saying. She's been fired at 3 previous school before her contract was filled. She's a power hungry bullheaded women, who the first year kissed everyone's XXX the following year strong-armed everyone, including our school board. (very small town) Luckily, we are in the process of getting new school board members, and questions are going to start being asked. Our principle cut many positions (janitor, school nurse) and gave herself a raise. The teachers in this town make the least of anyone in the state, but the superintendent/principle makes 3rd biggest salary in this region. Do I need to say more? I also respect leadership. I know you can't make all the people happy. But that's not what this lady is about

shondaring, the principals job is to enforce the district policies and run the school. his job is not to take direction from parents. if you are unhappy with how things are run by the principal, the best person to assess whether you have a valid gripe is his boss, the superinendent.

i woudl HATE it if our pricipal listened to parents and followed their advice. it would be the end of our school. (i am glad the principal LISTENS to parents,,,,dont get me wrong, but we respect the decisions he makes, he knows the whole picture)

I dont agree with all my kids principals ideas either, but they are trained to do this for a living. Most of us arent (trained to be Principals).

Dont know what the specifics of the problems are, I'd be careful using that statement just because a principal doesnt do (or a PTO doesnt want to upset) or bow to parents doesnt mean they arent listening. A principal should take all views and then come to a decision. As with all business, org, etc. Someone has to be top dog ie.- The principal is the final word at school.

Check those bylaws and mission, vision and goals - if its not in bylaws and majority of member dont want it- the PTO cant/wont do it.

I know you're interested in security as one topic- sounds like a District /BOE policy (or place to start to change) not a principal policy.

Our PTO chairperson has a great relationship with the principle. She does everything the principle says, and never lets our PTO address any semi-invasive issues. The chairperson doesn't want to make the principle mad.
However there are many parents in the school who question the principle on an everyday basis. Basically, most principles are very open minded. They like to accept input from the parents, and the students. But some principles like their power position, and don't listen to anyone. Their way or no way!!! You have to believe with principles like that, that the public will get sick of them and will bring the heat to the school board to remove them. We are seeing that in the making at our school right now. It seems like a slow process. But good triumphs over evil. It always works out.

we had one school in our district where the pto officers P and VP, resigned due to issues with the principal.

the next school yr, the principal was assigned a desk job at admin bldg.

sometimes you can only wait until management takes care of things (or bring things to the attention of upper mgmt), as there is only so much someone in a volunteer position can do to solve issues between volunteers and staff.
