PTO Storage Unit.....they threw it all away!!

18 years 3 weeks ago #105022 by CrewChief
Yes, they should have let someone know before throwing things out. Perhaps they mistakenly assumed that nobody wanted the stuff anymore.

My advice from this point is to just move forward with your plans for next year. You really have no idea what condition the old games were in so try to imagine that they actually did you a favor! Now you are no longer constrained by the contents of the storage unit and can go in any direction you like. You have a whole year to plan. Some searching on these boards will give you tons of great ideas for games and activities. Let go of the past and look forward to an exciting year of planning a fun, new event.

The storage unit was donated to the PTO to hold stuff such as this. We did not pay for it.

They Executive members wanted it cleaned out so taht we could see what we could still use. Some it was junk. Some was NOT, such as the signs, games, and etc. The junk was mostly the t-shirts and such that was out of date.

The schools have not had a Festival in a while (don't know exactly how long) and yes we WERE going to start it again this year for next year.

The people that donated it to use are the ones that cleaned it out. As far as I know they didn't contact anyone to come get what was in there. Nor had anyone known that this was an issue that perhaps they just wanted the Unit back. Which I understand. But they SHOULD have contact someone to let us know!!!

I'm with crewchief, more facts please. How long did you have to clean it out, was it pto property or the schools.Did you talk about this with you principal. And from what you wrote, how long ago did you have this FALL FESTIVAL,was the stuff in good shape or a pile ofcrap ready to catch fire. Are you planning on having a festival this year? If you are and it's the storage uints fault they need to pay you back. Next? do you have records of what was in the unit. Wiht out that you are going to have a hard time getting money back.

I'm not completely clear who did what here....

A. The PTO has a storage unit.
- Off site? Paid for by PTO? Payments current?

B. They talked about cleaning it out.
- Who's "they"? The PTO?

C. The people at the office cleaned up/threw stuff out...
- What "people"? The people who own the storage units? Under who's authority did they clean it out? Perhaps because it wasn't paid for?

I think it's important to find out who is ultimately responsible first. If the PTO didn't pay storage rent then the owners had the right to clean it out. Then, it's the former board members' fault. Otherwise, it's the storage companies fault and they owe restitution.

I think you need to ask the office why they did this and what you are supposed to do now. Hopefully they will have the integrity to help you replace enough stuff to put on some kind of fall festival.

No supplies = No festival

That would be my take on the situation. It seems like a logical consequence of their actions. I'm sure if it were me, I'd panic though and try to replace everything.
