Think of it this way, if Pres. Bush was to step down, then V.P. Cheney would assume office for the remainder of Bush's term. If Cheney couldn't do it,I believe that Sec. of State would take office etc...

Not that it really matters here, but the United States Presidential line of succession passes through the Speaker of the House of Representatives and President pro tempore of the Senate before it gets to the Secretary of State.

Alexander Haig (Sec of State) famously stated that he was "in control here" after the assination attempt on Ronald Reagan while the Vice President was out of contact... opinions vary as to whether he was unaware/unconcerned with lawful succession or speaking about some other sort of control. To be even more fair than that, the 1947 Presidential Succession Act (still current) was passed when Haig was already in his early 20s; the previous 1886 Act did go directly from the VP to the Secretar
of State.

(I'm sure you all wanted to know that!)

UPDATE: After a few months of having our past president waiting to be replaced, it finally happen last night. So we have a President, Co-pres., Vice president, and a Co-v.p. I just think that its just too many! But what do I know, I'm just the secretary!!

I'm happy that there was a flyer sent home to all families for the nominations, but I really wish there was an election. Its going to be an interesting rest of the year..one of the newly elected is becoming a thorn in my side (sort of speak)..I'll try to keep a postive attitude, but hopefully she'll keep one too!! Sounds like this one went in a good direction. Thanks for keeping us posted (there are so many horror stories it's nice to hear a good ending).

Good luck in August

Just to let you all know that they have decided to have the election in August. That's when school starts, and they will hold them like they hold them for the student council elections. I'm so happy that the whole school body gets to vote if they want! I'm happy that they listened..now I just need them to listen to something other things....

Again thanks for all the great info!!

I've been told that there are couple of members that are interested, but I haven't been told any specifics. I was told last night after a meeting at the school, that some members what me to take over. I politely decline, and said maybe in a few years. I'm really concern who will step up, maybe I should put my hat in the ring (that's what the current president said after I email her this morning about what I found out last night). Then who would take on the Secretary position?? I think I will just stay on as Sec. for another year. Something needs to stay consist.

Thanks everyone for the great information!!
