After getting AWESOME info from pwalther (Thanks!)
, we've decided to do it ourselves. The walk-a-thon company takes a
hefty percentage of your take, plus the "incidental" costs are unbelievable,
We got together a letter to teachers explaining what we're up to, one to parents, then the flier and sponsor sheet. We're NOT doing it by lap. We have 750 kids, and it's just too much work to make sure everyone follows up on the pledges, plus no one wants to be a "lap counter."
We have subcommittees--one for water/cups & tables one to arrange the DJ, prizes committee (which includes bicycle-style water bottles we're giving to each kid that hands in a pledge sheet) and one to handle the paperwork (we're running prizes for most donors and most amount raised).
The while event seems easy enough--or biggest stress is deciding on the prizes and getting a DJ that's good yet cheap. We're hitting up local radio tsations and praying they decide to help.
