Our school sold the Home Interior candles and did very well. A majority of the candles were less than $10 and a good value/quality for the money. We sold them with delivery in time for Christmas. We also had a Little Caesars Fundraiser during the soccer season when families were on the go. It too did well.
I don't know about "favorite" fund raiser but our BIGGEST fundraiser is our auction/party/gala that we just held last month and netted over $80,000. Now I'll give you some background: it's a private school(400 students) with fairly high income levels(mine does not fall into that category!!) so the parents are willing to spend(I am astounded at what the children's art projects sell for). We have a fabulous band, great food and drinks, live auction for children's art projects (one project from each class), silent auction with over 100 items, etc. Now, the two people in charge of this event were phenomenal and worked like dogs on this and there's probably no way we'll find anyone to chair this next year!! No one wants to follow them! This year's event almost doubled the profits from last year. It is a huge huge undertaking but this event has evolved over the past 18 years. It started out small and increased every year. I can't take ANY credit for this because, even though I'm PTO president, I did not do tons of work for this so I feel very lucky.
The thing that made a big difference this year in the earnings was that the chairmen had "Patron Tables" at $2000 or $1500 each and you got admission tickets with your tables. Surprisingly, lots of people bought those.
This concept could be adapted on a much smaller scale for different types of schools...

Our favorite is the Home and Garden Party candle sale. Very little work involved send out flyers, collect them in the office, the Home and Garden Rep takes care of the money and totalling. Candles delivered to the school and we take about 3 to 4 hours passing them out to students. We are a school of about 600 and we made over $6,000. The most we have made in 3 years on any fundraiser.
