The read a thon is where we ask the kids to read books. prek 3 and 4 are asked to either read or be read to 12 books. K's and 1st grader are asked to read 12 books and 2nd and 3rd graders are asked to read 10 chapter books and 4th graders are asked to read 500 pages. Each child is asked to obtain sponsors. Our goal this year was $30 per child or if you had more then one child at the school $20 ea. If they reached their goal they receive a lunchbox with the new school logo on it. We have 144 children. We learned of the total last night. We raised $3,500's all profit from the read-a-thon. We ask people to make the checks payable to the school that way they make it a tax deduction.

The other one is from originial artwork. The kids a picture and then the parents can order the artwork on anything from mousepads, to key chains, magnets to shirts

What about a breakfast/egg hunt with the easter bunny? We are doing a mouse breakfast (mouse is our mascot)in December with santa as a special guest. We are serving pancakes, donuts, sausage, juice, coffee danishes and fruit, having crafts, pictures with santa all for $6.00's. We are also looking in a golf tournament we haven't set the price for this yet.. We are doing a silent auction/dinner in the spring...We are moving our read-a-thon to the spring next year (100% profit for the school) and we have a dinner at the end of it as well. We are doing originial works for the holidays but can be done for mother's/father's day. Hope these helps. Our used book sale is a huge success. We sell used books and videos that families donate.

Bingo nights are easy and a lot of fun. Sell a family package - pizza or other food for four, drinks, bingo cards for the night and give away small inexpensive prizes.

Dear Annie,

Have you browsed through the PTO Today Yellow Pages?
www.ptotoday.com/yellowpages/fundraising/
If you have an Internet savvy group, then these resources will provide year-round fundraising for your school:
www.ptotoday.com/yellowpages/fundraising...Internet+Fundraisers

If allowed, then consider getting donations from local merchants and hold a raffle.

Scratch cards work will too.

Good luck!

Andy D.
