I just sent out my first email message to our member group and our teachers about the next meeting and have already gotten a few replies. I am hopeful that it will increase the number of people that attend the meetings.
I was wondering if anyone is using email to let members know what the teachers need for their classrooms to get the items donated. Is anyone doing this?
When I started on the PTSO board 3 years ago we had a hard time getting parents involved with many school activitites...the best thing we started was a parent's email group..we now have over 120 families in the email group and everyone loves it...we send out reminders, updates and information...we also beefed up our newsletter and made them more informative and clear...hope that helps!
I would KILL to have 200 out of 600 members attend an event!!! We have an open membership of 1000 parents and school staff with an average of 4 attending meetings and MAYBE 100 attending our skate parties we do as a fundraiser!
Keep talking positive and advertising your events. There were also tons of ideas in the PTO Today-- I think it was the first edition of the year....Tim help!!
Your club is doing great!
WE have had a difficult time obtaining parental involvement in our school. Our biggest turn out is our Back To School Rally in the Fall. We usually have about 200 people attend. Our school has a student body of 600. Membership is currently at 187 members. We have started to evaluate how we get info to parents. Although we have made improvements in these areas we would like to do better. We have tried to implement new programs and activities such as a family book club. We currently have 30 members in the club however, at each meeting we usually have about 12 to 15 people show up. What can we do to involve parents. We try to offer flexible times for events. We have also tried to institute a baker's brigade. This way parents can send in items needed for various activities even if they do not have time to come into the school. Any suggestionws will be appreciated.
