Last year was the first year we asked each class to make something for the silent auction. Only a couple of classes did something but here is what was done:
Kindergarten 1: The teacher had a class photo taken out on the playground (it was very cute) and matted and framed it. She put stickers etc..on the matt (sort of scrapbook like). The whole project was adorable - the only problem was none of the parents from that class came to the auction. Someone did purchase it and gave it to the kindergarten teacher.
Kindergarten 2: Painted a wooden box (like a small treasure chest) Had decopaged each childs photo on it, then had kids make their photo the center of a flower using their finger prints, put the name of the school and the year and grade on the top center. All the kids names were on the bottom. 4 parents were there from the class and a box that cost $7 plus time went for $110.
First Grade - A blank photo album that had all the kids photos on the front cover, grade, year school name Again a few parents were there - so the album went for close to $100.

Our school has done a children's art item every year for our live auction and yes, it usually raises alot of money. Now, we do have some crazy rich parents(not me!) who get in bidding wars so that usually drives the price up.
I remember a wide variety of items..they are usually a TON, I repeat, a TON of work to complete. Parents in each grade usually have to help, in addition to volunteers from the auction. One year they did birdhouses. Every classroom was given a birdhouse to decorate(a generous parent made them!) EAch child contributed in some way to the birdhouse and some were true works of art--some were junky. One year they illustrated the words to a hymn or a song and those were cute. EAch child drew and colored a small picture (based on the words of a song). All the pictures were then matted and framed and the words of the song were written on the matboard (in attractive hand printing). Those were precious. ONe year the theme was "Chairish the child". Every classroom decorated a chair: some talented artistic moms made them works of art and the kids added fingerprints or something. One mom painted a little picture of each child on the chair. Some of those chairs went for over $1,000.
Those are just a few ideas. I'm sure there are a million more. You will need lots of help though!
Good luck!

We are having a live auction to raise money for the students. I have heard that childrens' creative art is a big hit. Like a classroom project of some sort or individual art from a student. I really need ideas bad. This is also my last year at this school so I really wanted to do a good job. Also, this is my first time to chair the auction and only 2 people helping have any experience and it is very little. I'm desperate and I would greatly appreciate any help I can receive. Thank you very much !

I'm not sure I understand your question. You want to have a live auction for children? Or PTA members of children's stuff? Please clarify - maybe I can help.
I would love some help with live auctions. I cannot find anything in the archives under auctions. It is for members only. I want children/student ideas (k-5). I am looking for creative ideas too. Anything and everything. I would really appreciate any help you want to share. THANKS ! rissler@shentel.net
