I have had several emails asking about where to start in requesting donations, tips, guidelines, etc. So I created sort of a Helpful Hints with some good ideas and tips I have learned through my experience in soliciting donations. I can email it to anyone interested. Just send me an email or post your address here.
I talked to them face to face. We have to go out of county, we don't have a Wal-Mart or MacDonalds! So we hit up 2 or 3. Of course one of the managers had a child at our school(that helped). One of them only had three cards and she apologized several times and told us if we come back at a certian time they could give us more.
Some people like to call businesses, but I find you have more success if you are face to face looking rather desperate! It is harder for people to say no when they are making eye contact with you. With small businesses I don't lay it on so thick because I know they can't always give.
We do have a Dairy Queen, I'm not sure if that is national or just in the south, but they give us Free Cone tickets.
I am in the Portland area (st. paul to be exact) and would very much appreciate a copy of the local business list. Would you mind e-mailing me a copy? I am the new PTC President in our k-6 elementary school and could really use a starting point outside of my current 10 mile radius list. These poor people really do get drained with all of the requests that they get as we are such a small rural community. My address is This email address is being protected from spambots.
