Get a local carpet store to donate 100 carpet squares and have a huge musical carpet ("chairs") game. Charge 100 pennies to play ~ hopefully you'll get $1.00 bills ~ keep a can handy just in case. The winner will get $100 gc to a restaurant, 100 gumballs, 100 whatever.
We just had our fall fair this weekend and had a 50 person game and it was hysterical. The parents were more into it than the kids. We played the musical carpet game every hour ~ 5 games during the 6 hour fair. We made a few hundred dollars and had a great time doing it!
You could also do a cool photo booth - like at the fairs - where the kids can dress like the people back then. But, you'd have to use something other than a saloon I'm guessing.
You could focus things with interesting stats from 100 years ago (with signage of what it is, how it was important in 1905). Fun and learning. A few ideas.
- In 1905 the first jukebox invented. You could rent one (like at the A&W fast food restaurants) and let it play in an open area (let the kids/parents pick their own selections).
- Create a 2105 Time Capsule. Have "post-it" size paper for people to write things like what they think 2105 will be like, something this they think somone in 2105 might want to know about 2005. Not sure where to put it, but you can create it.
- Create 100 years of art. not sure how many classes/students you have, but you could divide the project up in to groups by year and each group draw something about that year. Then you could run the pictures in order for the last 100 years.
- The popsicle was invented by 11-years-old Frank Epperson in 1905. Epperson (1894-?) lived in San Francisco, California. Epperson had left a fruit drink out overnight (with a stirrer in it), and it froze, making a new treat. His frozen treat was originally called the Epsicle. Epperson got a patent on his "frozen ice on a stick" many years later, in 1923. The Epsicle was later renamed the popsicle. Epperson also invented the twin popsicle (with two sticks so it could be shared by two children), Fudgsicle, Creamsicle and Dreamsicle.
- Bake chocolate chip cookies: Ruth Graves Wakefield invented chocolate chips (and chocolate chip cookies) in 1930 - but was born in 1905. Wakefield ran the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Her new cookie invention was called the "Toll House Cookie." Her original cookies used broken-up bars of semi-sweet chocolate.
- Serve icecream in cones. In 1905 at the St. Lois World's Fair an ice cream vendor ran out of cups, she substituted a very thin rolled waffle and made an ice cream cone.
- Could even have people dress like they were in 1905 - at least the staff!

We are planning our annual Fall Carnival and we have most of our games, activities and food booths ready. The only thing is that this year we want to combine it with our Centennial Celebration. What should we do to highlight this great time??? Our school turns 100 years old in December but we want to include the centennial in all of our events this year in some way. Please help...I don't have much time.
