I am the PTO president at my daughters school and We recently had a family fun night. I had each grade level celebrating a different culture and each grade level did a mini presentation and there were crafts, games and activities set up in each room after the presentations. The KK - did an African Dance, 1st - Sang a song in Spanish - 2nd did an Hawaiian dance - 3rd - Did a mini comedy show (Ireland) - 4th - Exhibit on China - 5th - Patriotic Poem. We sold food that represented each culture also. I got a lot of compliments on this and we had a great time. Alot of work on everyones part. The grade level that had the best display also won a pizza party.
Our local high school has a deal for the grade schools, where we get free tickets to one of their home basketball games. They're the "nosebleed" seats, but the kids don't seem to care.
The high school kids love having a "packed" house, even if the upper balcony is full of elementary school kids and their families. Sometimes a few of the elementary children will have older brothers playing, which is cool, too!
The High school team also lets a few of our kids do a "high fives line" to the team as they start the game.
Contact your high school sports dept. to swing a deal.
We have a game night once a year. The kids bring in their favorite board games to play, and the parents bring in their favorites. Our PTO provides pizza, popcorn, and beverages. Each family brings in a salad or a dessert. The kids and parents usually have a great time. Not difficult to run and low cost too for us as the local pizza joint donates half of the pizzas for the night.
We have a snowflake dance/ice cream social. We offer make your own sundaes. We scoop the ice cream and they put on the toppings. This is a popular event. We charge $2.00 to get in and this includes a sundae or a rootbeer float. We also have a D.J.that plays fun music. This is for K-5 and their families.
Our Parent Staff Group is currently looking for a Family Fun Night idea to replace our skating parties. The location for the skating parties was determined to be an unsafe location. Any ideas?
This is for a K-6 elementary school. Thanks for any ideas and details of those that you can provide.
